Benefits Assessments and Appeals

We have an NHS Financial Inclusion worker attached to the practice. They are able to help patients through the benefits assessments and appeals. They are able to access your medical records if you consent to this, so can complete any medical information required for assessments or appeals.

This team is better placed to help complete forms than the GPs. You can be referred by our reception staff.

Please do not book GP appointments for this purpose as this reducing the amount of time they are available to spend addressing the medical needs of our patients.

The NHS or City Council does not fund practices for providing medical reports to Local Housing Authorities. These housing authorities have all agreed with the Glasgow Local Medical Committee that no medical information from practices is required to assess "medical points". These are all done through their own medical assessment processes.

If benefits or housing agencies require specific medical information they can contact the practice directly with your consent.

It is important for all concerned to understand that GPs are not always best placed to provide the information that is required.  The assessments are based on how medical conditions affect individuals, rather than the actual conditions themselves. This requires the person affected, or people who know them well, to complete the questions.

We trust therefore that you will understand the reasons why we cannot comply with these requests.

We believe it is more important for doctors to be available to see and speak to their patients.
