Please note that if you have a test of any kind performed in hospital, you must contact the hospital department directly for the results and not the practice.
For tests arranged by the practice:
If your test results show that you need more tests or treatment, we may try to contact you.
You should always contact the practice to check your test results if you have not received any communication within 7 days for blood tests and 2 weeks for x-rays or scans.
Once a doctor has reviewed your test results, you can access them:
- use eConsult
- phone us between 2pm to 6pm
- Request a copy to be sent by e-mail or text message, with comment from your clinician, fill out our test results request form
- you may recieve a text message - see below for more information.
Please always ensure that you follow up on tests. DO NOT assume that you will be contacted with abnormal results.
Questions about your results
Our administration team are not qualified to comment on results. They will read you a message left by the doctor or nurse. If you do not understand a result or have a question, arrangements can be made for a doctor or the Practice Nurse to speak to you.
Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.
Blood tests:
You can find out more about blood tests, their purpose and the way they are performed on the NHS website.
There is also several "decision aids" available for patients to help decide what might be the best course of action for you.
X-rays
You can find out more about x-ray tests, how they are performed, their function and the risks by visiting the NHS website.
If you are advised to have an X-ray the doctor will give you a form or advise which hospital to attend. You must attend the walk in X-ray service within 28 days.
These are open Mon-Fri 09.00 - 16.30 (except public holidays).
Scans
You may be referred for other types of tests by your GP.
GPs have restricted access to some scans for very specific clinical conditions, such as MRI scans for knee ligament problems. Your clinician will tell you if you are being referred for a particular test.
These may include:
